Signer Penn’s final resting place is on a walking path in Guilford Courthouse National Military Park, under a memorial to the signers of the Declaration of Independence in Greensboro, North Carolina.
There is a place for each of the three signers from North Carolina, but he is one of only two buried there, William Hooper being the other.
The third signer, Joseph Hewes’s remains from North Carolina, were never recovered.
Note: There is an empty crypt below the monument should they ever identify the remains of the signer Joseph Hewes.

John Penn was an important figure in early American history. He was born in Virginia in 1741 and studied law at the College of William and Mary. After graduating, he moved to North Carolina and became involved in local politics. In 1775.
John was commissioned to the 2nd Continental Congress from North Carolina. and signed both the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation.
After the American Revolution, John Penn was elected to the North Carolina General Assembly and later became a judge on the state supreme court. Throughout his life, he remained dedicated to his family and Christian faith.
